It's that time of the year when CTIA Wireless, the big U.S.-based wireless show, is getting ready to kick off. I'll be heading down on Monday to Las Vegas to start covering the event as part of Audible’s crew early as Monday evening when Billboard holds its annual Mobile Entertainment Live event.

Mid-Week Alert - Motorola's spin-off and its impact on Mobile Content Evolution

The significance of Motorola's spin-off in today's mobile content market

How could Motorola's spin-off of its mobile devices unit affect the mobile content industry? In today's conference call on the split, CEO Greg Brown noted that "customers want to see Motorola succeed for competitive reasons." Brown, of course, was alluding to the overwhelming dominance that its Finnish rival Nokia now enjoys in the handset market: 40 percent and growing. Nokia is trailed by Samsung which, in second place, only manages 14 percent, not even half of Nokia's share. Motorola, meanwhile, is in third at 12 percent.

Last week, EMobile Exponent presented the first Porsche Design Mobile Phone, the P’9521 to members of the local automotive, IT and lifestyle press and the Porsche Club of the Philippines.

 The P’9521, which combines purist design with high-quality natural materials such as aluminum and mineral glass is a collaborative work of Porsche Design Group of Stuttgart, Germany and France based Sagem Mobiles.

As we are ready to start the second quarter of 2008, we have been overwhelmed by the number of announcements and reports related to Mobile TV growth and the significance of this trend.
